Talen Energy

In 2000 PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), a Fortune 300 utility company headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was interested in acquiring a successful mechanical company which was well established in the Boston area. PPL became aware of Fred Williams Inc.’s reputation—one built on strong relationships, professional integrity, and depth of technical knowledge. PPL quickly developed a confidence in the company, and acquired Fred Williams Inc. in November of 2000 as a wholly-owned subsidiary, operating under the direction of Fred's grandson, James Williams, as President.

PPL had built a mechanical contracting and energy services business with offices in Pittsburgh (McCarls), Harrisburg (McClure), Allentown, PA, Albany, NY, and Fishkill, NY (H.T. Lyons), Philadelphia and New York City (Burns Mechanical), Springfield, MA and Hartford, CT (BG Mechanical), and Elmsford, NY, (Elmsford Sheetmetal).

Talen Energy was formed when the competitive power generation business of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) was spun off and immediately combined with the competitive generation business owned by private equity firm Riverstone Holdings, LLC. Fred Williams Inc., along with the rest of the PPL mechanical group, became part of Talen Energy.
